From the Introduction . . .
The people buried in the East Jewett graveyards were, with a few exceptions, residents of the Town of Jewett, New York, and nearby communities during all or part of their lives. They were the pioneers and sons and daughters of pioneers who settled in the East Kill Valley in the 1790's and early 1800's and whose descendants are now scattered throughout the length and breadth of our land.
The larger graveyard is at the rear of the Methodist Church, on land given for the purpose by Lemuel and Lydia Woodworth in 1835; the smaller, older one is in a farm field about a mile west of the church. In this record, the arrangement of names is by the position of the gravestones, the Roman numerals designating more or less regular rows of stones, the Arabic numerals the individual graves in each row. Names in the older cemetery have the letters O. C. and one number.
Unless otherwise indicated all places mentioned are in New York State.
