- HASTINGS/SQUIRE - 2/17/01 -- I have traced
the records to STEPHEN HASTINGS AND SARAH SQUIRE. Sarah's father
Edward was born in Durham, NY and died in Lebanon, NY. He at some
point went to Connecticut and married there and some of his 8 children
were born in Connecticut (Cornwall, Litchfield, Connecticut to be
exact) and some were born in NY in this area. I have found Sarah's
history online to 1400 Scotland/England area. The problem is her
family history is missing her father Edward/married to Mary Pierce,
all her siblings (8 of them) and anything about Stephen Sampson
Hastings. I would like to locate this information as I would like to
help their history files as well as my own, plus the fact that I am
currently living in England and would like to know if this line comes
over here. If so, I would like the opportunity to check it on this
end before I return back to the states. Thanks Any help please email me at

- SMITH - (12/21/00) -- I have family records back to my great-grandfather, but am
unable to find additional information. My grandfather was Rulandus Brandow Smith, b.

Smith, b. 8/16/1834 and Naomi Jane Brandow b. 3/31/1841, and he had four brothers: DeWitt
C. Smith (b. 10/23/1861, d. 12/4/1926), Calvin D. Smith (b. 8/24/1863, d. ?1951), William

- SMITH - 4/06/01 -- I am trying to find information on a Solomon smith who was married to a
woman named Prissilla (last name unknown). They had a daughter Harriett
smith who married Leander Temple. Harriett and Leander are my great-great
grandparents. Harriett was born in Coxsackie, NY on August 24, 1811. She
died on April 19, 1898. They were married in Coxsackie on ?31 Dec 1830.
This information was recorded by an unknown relative. My "Temple cousin"
Loretta Eaton said she believes that this was a celebration of all the Smith
Weddings in that year, when family members got together for the holidays and
that Leander and Harriett were married the summer of 1830. It is in
particular interest to us because it is said in our family that Harriett was
Oneida Indian. Their son William Henry married a woman who was Kainai
(Blackfoot) and of which is my family's Nation. This, however, interests me
also as I have been studying and learning of the culture and history of the
Haudenosaunee people my entire life (being so far from the Canadian lands of
my gramma Eliza's). Are there any resources that can be used that may lead
to some information in Coxsackie and greene county?

- SMITH - 7/16/01 -- I am looking for information regarding Peter Smith who was born in
Westeroo, NY. He married Mary Wagner who was born in Clarkeville,New York
and they had at least one son, Harvey Miller Smith (born March 22, 1858 in
Meriden, Connecticut. Did they have other children? When and where were
they
married? Who were their parents? Harvey was a silver turner in Meriden,
long known as the "Silver City", perhaps because it was the home of
International Silver for many years. I would like to learn more about my
family heritage, especially since I know so little about them. Harvey
married Anna M. Ackerman fromSouthington, CT and they had 3-4 children.
One
of the children was Myrtle Miller Smith who married my grandfather James J.
Donnelly from Meriden, CT. Myrtle died in 1918 from the horrific Influenza
that killed so many soldiers in the Second World War. Sadly, my mother
Norma
F. Donnelly was only two years old and my Uncle ( James J. Donnelly Jr.)
was
six. My daughter and I have been on a mission to search the "Family
Tree" on
my mother's side of the family. Any information on either Peter Smith or
Mary Wagner would help us continue our search.

- SMITH - 10/14/01 -- I'm interested to know if Elijah Smith, b. 1778, had children other
than Seth. I'm looking for the parents of Catherine Smith, who
married Thomas Platt in 1819. Do you have any info about Seth's
siblings? Do you know who Elijah married?
Yes, I'm snatching at straws.....but I have had so little to go on!
Thomas and Catherine lived in Cairo, N.Y [Greene County], and several of
their children were born in Greene Co., before the family moved to the
Republic of Texas. I noted that there was a will for Elijah Smith
probated in Cairo in a 'logical' time frame[1819-1923]. Please let me
know if you have any information that would possibly fill in a few
blanks. Many thanks,

- TOMPKINS Sophia (possibly also known as Eunice) - (Feb 17, 2001) --
Looking for parents of SOPHIA (possibly EUNICE SOPHIA) TOMPKINS; born about
1828 in Greene County. She married Jacob HORNBECK at Chapman's Hotel in
Prattsville in August 1844, Rev. Heddiston officiating. They lived adult
lives in Denning area of Ulster County. Children were: Olive, Sarah,
Eleazer, Eugene, Mary, Leonard, Rosalie. Jacob was killed at Battle of
Bottom's Bridge near Richmond, Va in Feb 1864. Sophia remarried Jeremiah
Smith who murdered her in Nov 1868 in a rather gruesome crime that took
place in Accord, Ulster Co.
But who were Sophia's Parents? Best gues was Timothy Tompkins and wife Ida
Mdasie based on census records of kids sex and ages in 1830 and 1840, but no
hard evidence. Marriage in Prattsvile makes me think the family would have
been from that general area. Also where was she buried - her bodied was not
identified by the time of burial, then was exhumed for identification.
Should be in the Accord area, near murder scene, but best guess it is an
unmarked grave. Anyone ever see records of a REv. Heddiston, possibly a
roving minister?

- WOLVEN / BEAR / PALMATIER / JEWELL - 8/17/01 -- Seek unraveling of mystery family in
Greene County.
My g-g-grandfather's eldest brother Jeremiah Van Kleeck JEWELL was
married to Eliza C. WOLVEN. She had an unmarried sister Catherine
WOLVEN. Eliza had apparently previously married a PALMATIER, as she had
a daughter Eliza or Elizabeth PALMATIER, who married Joseph BEAR. In
1870 Joe BEAR was 73 and Eliza was in her 20's. In the 1880 census Eliza
JEWELL and Catherine WOLVEN are shown as Joe's nieces. This then
presumes that their mother was Joe's sister, so Joe's wife (Eliza
PALMATIER) was his great-niece. I'm interested in sorting this out, but
no PALMATIER or WOLVEN genealogy I've found has these people.
As an interesting sidelight, (an) Elizabeth BEAR is shown in the 1900
census as being an inmate of the women's prison at Auburn, Cayuga
County, NY. The age is right, but no home county was given.
Any information about any of these people / this family would be very
warmly received.
