    2. . ADAMS-3/19/97 Searching for birthplace, parents, and sibs of Joseph ADAMS of Durham, where he died on 16 May 1832 at 94 yrs of age. He is the Joseph mentioned on pg. 273 in Beers "History of Greene Co., NY". He had 3 wives and 16 children. His last wife was Eunice Pratt. I decend from their son Vactor. Sons from earlier marriages include Joseph Jr., John, and Platt. Beers book says Joseph sen. was born in Boston, but this is evidently not the case. I have much info on his three families and even a copy of his will in which he names 15 of his children and all of his wives. His birthdate is reported to be 10 Oct 1738, but where, and who were his parents? Am happy to share my work with others who are searching this family. Thank you, Elaine Stewart
    3. . ADAMS (9/6/99) -- Williams Adams, b.est 1755, lived in Fredericks Dutchess Co. (now Putnam) and served as Sgt. in Dutchess 7th militia. By 1791 he was of Coxsackie Greene Co., farmer. Submitted compensation petitions and finally went to court in 1822 to get compensation for the death of his brother Jesse in the Revolution. He always termed himself "of Coxachyee in Albany Co." !!     7. . Artman - 4/18/99 Thanks to a lot of helpful people I have established the connection between Arthur Artman, my step grandfather, and John Justus Artman, the Revolutionary War Soldier. A special thanks to Sidney S. Castle for the information he sent from Greene County Historical Society. There are a few loose ends that would be nice to clean up. 1. John Justus married Elizabeth Perry of Dutchess Co. NY in 1872. She died in 1876 and it is reported they had 4 children. Does anyone know their names? One may be John. In 1879 he married again. Her first name was Irving. Her last name is not known for sure, but it is reported she was born October 13, 1762 in Ammon, Dumfries, Scotland. Does any one have any certain knowledge of her maiden name? The information I have gathered, along with the Revolutionary War Pension file for John Justus Artman is being sent to the Sidney Castle and the Greene County Historical Society, Vedder Memorial Library for their files. He had a distinquished military career, graduated from NY Medical School and married Susie Merwin. They had three sons. His 30 year medical practice was in Brooklyn, NY. I would like to know the names of his children and of his parents. I have come to a real dead end on this. The info I have given is from a newspaper article at the time of his death. They ended up in Norfolk Co. Ontario on the north shore of Lake Erie around 1910. They had children Mariah (b. 1784), Henry (b. 1790) John (b. 1791) and Jeremiah (b. 1809) born in the US and possible daughters Catherine, Hannah, and Elizabeth born in Ontario. His father's name was Robert BJORKLUND, living in Acra, New York in1938. b 20 April 1920 in Bergen, Norway. Son of Robert Johan Bjorklund b. 5 Jan 1890 in Avesta, Sweden and Alma LUNDE b. 31 Jan 1895 in Bergen, Norway. They came to the United States in Oct 1924 into Ellis Island, New York. I know that when he enlisted into the Army he stated he lived in Durham, New York and his place of entry (1942) was in Hartford, Connecticut. Robert died in Portland, Oregon in October 1991.     224. . HOWARD -- (6/17/1999) -- We, Ed Kohinke & I, have found the grave sites of my father's, Wesley Howard, Aunt and Uncle in the Ashland Cemetery. As usual, and with enthusiasm, it raises even more questions. We found Leslie L. Howard's(1886-1958), and his wife, Blanche's(1891-1974) stone, at the very top of the cemetery next to the road way. Next to their stone is a military marker for a Clinton L. Howard(1914-1972). We believe that this is their son, but we have no record of this. We do know that they two daughter's, Eva Blanche & Fredonia, but cannot find any record of them. We have a picture of Leslie, Blanche and the two girls dated 1912. We also found next to Leslie, a stone for Adrian F.(1884-1950) & Stella G.(1882-?). We know that there was a sister of Leslie's who was named Stella Gertrude Howard and that she had married a Tompkins. This has to be her. I have the following information: Ira Hughes (or Huse) was born on February 22, 1796 in Durham, Greene County, New York. He married Sally Serrin (b. January 6, 1799, in Greene County, New York; d. September 15, 1863, in Huntsburg, Ohio) on October 13, 1822. The 1830 Census for Greene County, Durham Township, New York, lists the following record: Ira Hughes [note the spelling], head of family, aged 34, wife, aged 30, 4 children, under 10 years, 1 female, aged 70 years. In 1834 he and his family removed to the West, making the journey by the Erie canal and overland by team ultimately to Huntsburg, Ohio. From that point on, we have pretty good information.
